Following West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's
announcement that the drenching of Durga symbol will happen on October 2, 3 and
4, excepting October 1 for Muharram the day of grieving for Muslims, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has said
that they would contradict the choice.
"The State government is attempting to upset Durga icon
submersion. A year ago, there was a comparable order because of Muharram. This
year additionally, the Chief Minister has done likewise," Dilip Ghosh,
State leader of BJP said on Thursday. "This is being improved the
situation Muslim pacification and vote bank governmental issues," he said.
Mr. Ghosh said that like the earlier year a few people
approach the Court and it will have significant repercussions.
Senior State government authorities reported that the choice taken
in perspective of two contemplations. "There were a few issues a year ago
after the covering of two religious occasions —
Bijaya Dashami and Muharram — and this year as well, the Vishwa Hindu
Parishad (VHP) is arranging a 'Shastra Puja' [weapons worship] in the State on October
1," a senior authority said.

Sachindranath Singha said that VHP will
bring out rally with "customary weapons" from different parts of the State on October 1.
"We will hold with customary
weapons on Bijaya Dashami and if police discourage the encourages, we would
take a legitimate plan of action,"
Mr. Singha said.
"Despite the fact that we have not yet chosen what
number of revitalizes will hold and in
which places, we want to keep such energizes in a significant portion of the locale," Mr. Singha revealed to The Hindu. Tuesday evening, Chief Minister Mamata
Banerjee shared the insights about the current year's Puja festivities.
"This year, Durga Puja and Muharram fall around the
same time. Except for a 24-hour period
upon the arrival of Muharram; Immersions can happen on October 2, 3 and 4," Ms. Banerjee said in a tweet. While
looking for participation from the group puja coordinators on the issue, Ms.
Banerjee said that a few people would
endeavor to enjoy some incitement for political increases.
Afterward, West Bengal police, in a progression of tweets,
encouraged the general population not to have confidence in any bits of gossip.
"This year Durga Puja Immersion can occur on Sept 30, Oct 2, 3 and 4,
aside from on first Oct being the Day of Muharram. Kindly don't trust any
deception battle," tweeted West Bengal police.
Court's intercession
In a similar
circumstance in 2016, individual puja
boards of trustees looked for alleviation from Calcutta High Court. The Court
expanded the due date set by the police for submersion of family unit icons on October 11, 2016 (Dashami) and had rapped the State
government for forcing such limitations on Dashami.
In one of the requests conveyed on the issue, Justice
Dipankar Datta of the Calcutta High Court had said that there was an
"unmistakable attempt concerning the
State government to spoil and assuage the minority segment of the general
population at the cost of the greater part section
without there being any conceivable avocation."
